Therapies - Massage(Swedish)
Originally developed in the late eighteenth century by a Swedish fencing master, this was the first systematic application of therapeutic massage in the west. Swedish massage borrowed from European folk massage, oriental techniques brought to the middle-east and from breakthroughs in anatomy and physiology at the time. It contains strokes, pressure and manipulation, with each having specific therapeutic benefits. Swedish massage speeds up the return of un-oxygenated and toxic blood from the extremities. Recovery time from muscular strain is shortened by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid and other metabolic wastes. It increases circulation without stressing the heart. It stimulates the skin and the nervous system and reduces stress on a physiological and emotional level. Its benefits make it a widely used remedial therapy.
